Rectangle or Square Plot
Enter the length and width of your rectangular or square plot. All measurements should be in feet.
Four-Sided Plot (with Diagonal)
For irregular four-sided plots, enter all four sides and one diagonal measurement. The diagonal should connect opposite corners.
Irregular Plot (5+ Sides)
For complex plots with 5 or more sides, divide the plot into triangles. Enter the three sides of each triangle.

How to Measure Your Plot
For Rectangular/Square Plots
Measure the length and width of your plot. For best accuracy, measure from corner to corner along each side. If the plot is not perfectly rectangular, use the quadrilateral method.
For Four-Sided Irregular Plots
Measure all four sides of your plot. Then, measure the diagonal from one corner to the opposite corner. This diagonal divides the plot into two triangles, allowing for accurate area calculation even if the sides are not equal.
For Complex Irregular Plots (5+ Sides)
Divide your plot into multiple triangles. For each triangle, measure all three sides. Enter each triangle's measurements separately, and the calculator will sum up the total area.
Tips for Accurate Measurements
- Use a measuring tape or rope for accurate measurements
- Measure multiple times and take the average for best results
- Ensure all measurements are in feet
- For diagonal measurements in quadrilateral plots, measure from corner to corner
- For irregular plots, ensure triangles do not overlap
- Always double-check your measurements before calculating
Calculation Methods Used
Rectangle/Square
Area = Length × Width
Quadrilateral (Heron's Formula)
The plot is divided into two triangles using the diagonal. For each triangle with sides a, b, c:
s = (a + b + c) / 2 (semi-perimeter)
Area = √[s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)]
Irregular Plots
Each triangle is calculated using Heron's Formula, and all areas are summed together.
